Inpatients
The aim of the program is to provide children with a safe and contained space to explore their emotional responses to their personal cancer journey. The benefits of Art Therapy can assist in the emotional wellbein go fht child, supporting the child's development iof a sense of self and their identity. The intention of this theraputic activity is to assure continutiy in the child's psycho-emotional developement by facilitating their needs, expression of emotions (anger, fear and anxiety), givingt them a voice through advocacy and the power of choice. The sense of empowerment comes from choosing to participate, selecting the activity and what art materials they would to further explore.
Outpatients
An 'open art group' is facilitated over three hours on Tuesday mornings, providing patients and their families with respite and an opportunity to participate in Art Therapy. The open group informally introduces Art Therapy to the clients and helps to build a connection with the service for future admissions.
