Description of Project:
The Family Room at Monash Children’s provides respite for families with very sick children in addition to the accommodation provided at the nearby Ronald McDonald House Monash.

The Family Room is a comfortable, secure retreat for parents and families of Paediatric, Oncology and Newborn Services patients. It is principally designed for family members who live in the Southern Health catchment area. Country, interstate and international families with very sick children stay for extended periods at RMH Monash that is adjacent to the MCH.
The Family Room replicates a home-like atmosphere for a few hours when a parent needs a break. It is be constructed near the paediatric services next to a children’s playground overlooking an internal courtyard.

The Family Room will operate from 8.00am to 10.00pm and is fully equipped with a kitchen, shower and laundry facilities, a dining area, a well equipped library, a lounge for reading and/or conversation as well as a computer desk with internet access. Designed for the maximum comfort of parents and carers, the room also provides an area with recliners to relax or sleep during the day. There is also be a separate quiet room and an outdoor terraced area and glass conservatory with plants and views over the surrounding area.
